Just what he wanted!!!
My husband has been wanting one of these for awhile, so this was one of his Christmas Gifts. It is perfect. My only complaint is he needed to put together the little stand and it would be nicer if the company had done that. However, my husband loves ANYTHING he can build or fix. Now the only problem is he wants to play barber now and I would be his barber!!!!

This safety razor leaves me bristly and irritated
Before now, I have never used a safety razor. I've always used the Gillette Fusion line because it was fast, easy, and didn't nick me when I shaved. When I received this product, I watched several YouTube videos before attempting shaving with the razor. One thing to know about a safety razor, it takes multiple passes to get your skin baby butt smooth. Also, the head doesn't angle automatically, so you have to angle it as you shave, and if you don't do it just right, you're bound to cut up your face. This is not pleasant! When using this particular razor, I seemed to be having a particularly difficult time, and I asked friends who have used similar ones in the past if I am doing anything wrong. They said I was doing it right, but sometimes the razor quality and design just isn't good up to par and it makes shaving a chore. That's what happened here. The blades just don't seem to fit into it correctly and the balance of the razor in my hand wasn't great. Also, even after three passes going with and against the grain did not give me the results I craved. I did like using the badger brush, as this is a nicer way to apply shaving cream lather than just by hand. But it doesn't offer enough appeal to convert me from the products that I have been using for years.

Way too aggressive
This set looks great, and makes a good looking gift. However, there's a few things to know about it if this is your first foray into DE razor shaving. You can generally tell how aggressive a razor is going to be by how much of the blade is exposed. Razor head shape comes into play too, but I've uploaded a picture of the Edwin Jagger that I've used for a long time and love, and compare it to this razor.Right off the bat, this razor has a lot of the blade exposed.I shaved with my preferred blades, and this really produced a smooth shave, but in those tougher areas around the mouth, I got weepers like I'd never had.I know that you need to match the blade to the razor and so I tried a couple different blades, but they didn't work as well as my preferred blades, lots of tugging. The other issue with so much blade exposed is that to me, it feels like the blade bends back a tiny bit when the razor is pulled down. It's not a reassuring feeling.I know some razors can break at the head where the handle screws in. This one doesn't feel as solid as the Jagger when assembling. So final thoughts:This is an aggressive razor. If that's what you want, this could work for you. It's much more aggressive than the Edwin Jagger, (or any other razor I've used Parker, Vikings, and others). It's not as sturdy as those other razors, and aggressive doesn't mean better, it's going to be up to your shaving style, facial hair type, and skin sensitivity. An aggressive razor is going to provide more opportunities for weepers. The set looks nice and would be a nice gift, but I'm going to stick with the Edwin Jagger.

Great starter set.
Badger Shaving Brush Set, 3in1 Razor and Brush StandI like the looks of this set but there are some shortcomings.Packaging: While the box this set comes in is nice, the contents are just loosely thrown inside. That means the painted parts can get nicked and scratched as they crash together in shipping. A few cutouts in some foam would go a long way to making this a nicer set with plenty of gift potential.Brush: This pure badger brush is stiff and what you would expect from the low end of badger. It’s got sharp ends that will soften over time but they’ll scrub you raw if you lather too much. There’s a nice curve to the brush and the handle feels nice. I was able to build up a decent foam with it without a lot of effort. In time this will be a decent brush. Unlike my silvertip this one didn’t shed any expensive hairs as I was using it. I sorely dislike looking at those loose silvertip hairs and thinking “There goes another dollar down the drain!”Stand: The stand has plenty of weight in the base and holds the brush and razor nicely. The base had foam to keep it from sliding and hopefully rusting. I tried a variety of brushes and razors in the stand and they all worked on it. The black accent on my stand had some nicks in the paint. Probably from shipping.Razor handle: This is where the kit really takes a hit. I like a little heft in my handles. This handle feels hollow. It’s so light it feels like a plastic tube. It looks nice enough and the knurled grip is in the right place but there’s very little weight to it.Razor head: The closed comb head is fairly aggressive and I’ve not had such a loud shave in a long time. I used my standard Astra blades to keep from influencing my experience with a new blade. The razor produced great somewhat aggressive results. I did have to re-align the blade a couple of times to get it straight on the head. There’s a bit of play in the blade holder that will result in a devastating angle on the head. It’s a bit of a bother since I’m used to just dropping a blade in and screwing the handle in place, shave away. With this razor it looks like I’ll have to check the alignment every time. I’m sure that will mean this goes in the bottom drawer collecting dust.I didn’t try the included Dorcy DE blades but I’m sure they are good enough for a start if you haven’t found your blade yet.For the price this is a decent set. I’ve definitely had a smoother shave but not from a kit as cheap as this. If you are just starting out this is a good choice. You can’t beat the price and you get just about everything you need. It’s very nice looking which is a plus for the WAF category.
